Nayara Energy signed MoUs with the Gujarat government’s forest department for the conservation and restoration of the Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary in Jamnagar, and the education department for promotion of reading activities.
The company will a provide financial aid of Rs 12 crore for the project to be executed over three years with the forest department that will include improvement of the environmental condition of the wetland and its biodiversity, encouraging participation of local stakeholders in the management of the wetland and related activities, and promoting eco-tourism, infrastructure development and capacity-building.

A Ramsar site, the Khijadia Bird Sanctuary is home to 321 species of birds, nine species of fish and shrimp, 185 species of plants, 23 species of butterflies, and 21 species of dragonflies.
The sanctuary is surrounded by five villages — Khijadiya, Dhuvav, Jambuda, Sachana and Vibhapar — all eco-sensitive zones located at a distance of one-three kilometres.
The company also signed an MoU with the education department’s Vidya Samiksha Kendra to “boost reading activities in 1,300 government schools and Anganwadis of Jamnagar and Devbhoomi Dwarka districts”
