Chinese scientists have set a new world record by generating a 71.36-tesla flat-top pulsed magnetic field, marking a major breakthrough in high magnetic field research in advanced scientific infrastructure. This is reported by Global Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the source, the new figure surpasses the team’s previous world record of 64 tesla, set in 2018, by a substantial margin.

Flat-top pulsed magnetic fields are a cutting-edge research tool that combine the benefits of steady and pulsed magnetic fields. They offer high magnetic strength with sustained stability, which is crucial for precision experiments such as magnetic resonance and advanced studies in condensed matter physics, chemistry, and materials science.

Magnetic induction, measured in tesla, is a critical unit in electromagnetism; one tesla equals 20,000 times the Earth’s magnetic field. Higher magnetic induction levels dramatically expand the possibilities for experimental discovery in multiple scientific domains.

The achievement is part of the ongoing development of China’s national scientific infrastructure. As of 2025, China has hosted over 2,000 projects involving researchers from more than 141 institutions across 30 countries.
