President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, during the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, to discuss expanding bilateral trade, investment, and cooperation in key strategic sectors. This is reported by the official website of Brazil’s government.
A central focus of the meeting was enhancing trade exchange and reciprocal investment, leveraging the scale and potential of both nations’ consumer markets. The two heads of state emphasised the need to establish direct air connectivity between Brazil and Nigeria to boost tourism and business opportunities across the South Atlantic.
President Tinubu outlined ongoing reforms in Nigeria and presented investment opportunities in infrastructure, energy, and fertiliser production. He expressed particular interest in strengthening cooperation to increase agricultural productivity, highlighting Brazil’s agricultural research institution as a model in innovation and technology.
The dialogue also addressed collaborative projects in energy transition, science, technology and innovation, and space observation. These areas were identified as essential for fostering sustainable development and mutual progress.
President Lula extended a formal invitation to his Nigerian counterpart to attend the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30) in Belem. He also confirmed plans to host a Brazil–Nigeria business forum during President Tinubu’s upcoming state visit to Brasilia, scheduled for August 2025.
