Ambassador Juan Fernando Holguin Flores: Ecuador is Latin America’s leader by number of students in Russia

An event dedicated to Ecuador’s national holiday, the 216th anniversary of the first call for independence, was held at the Russian State Library for Foreign Literature named after M. I. Rudomino. Speaking to guests, the Latin American country’s Ambassador to Russia, Juan Fernando Holguin Flores, noted that trade remains one of the key areas of cooperation between the two countries.

According to the diplomat, Ecuador is the largest supplier of bananas to Russia. In addition, Ecuadorian roses, shrimp and cocoa are also supplied to the country. The parties are seeking to expand cooperation, including new products and the development of tourism.

“I would like to note that Russia supports our students through scholarships. Ecuador is the Latin American country with the largest number of students in Russia, which demonstrates a high level of interest and trust in the Russian education system and culture,” said the Ambassador.

He stressed the importance of maintaining uninterrupted trade, which contributes to strengthening economic relations between the states. Juan Fernando Holguin Flores emphasised his country’s commitment to dialogue and multilateralism. Ecuador, including at the UN, advocates peaceful settlement of disputes and respect for international law. The diplomat expressed confidence that Ecuador and Russia can continue to work together for stable peace and mutual understanding.

On 16 June this year, Ecuador and Russia celebrated the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Throughout this time, relations between the two countries have been based on mutual respect.
