Bolivian President Luis Arce has announced the official commencement of construction on a long-awaited international bridge linking Bolivia and Brazil. The announcement followed a meeting in Porto Velho with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, as reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
The Binational Bridge, which will span over 1,200 metres across the Mamore River, will link the towns of Guayaramerin in Bolivia’s Beni region with Guajara-Mirim in Brazil’s Rondonia state. The project, which is expected to take around three years to complete, was formalised with the signing of a construction contract witnessed by both heads of state.
President Arce hailed the bridge as a tribute to Bolivia’s Bicentennial and a symbol of integration. He praised President Lula for honouring historical obligations and facilitating the investment of US$75.5 million in the project.
Once completed, the bridge will enhance trade, transport, and navigability across the Mamore River, benefiting remote Amazonian regions on both sides of the border.
