Brazil boosts strategic mineral exports to China as green industry surges in 2025

Brazil has significantly expanded its exports of strategic minerals to China in the first quarter of 2025, driven by surging demand from the renewable and green technology sectors. This is reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the Brazil-China Business Council, copper exports reached a record US$331 million, marking a 180 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024. China accounted for 35 per cent of this trade, consolidating its position as Brazil’s largest copper buyer.

The export volumes of other key materials for the green industry also registered substantial growth. Manganese exports surged by 310 per cent, ferronickel by 253 per cent, refined copper and copper alloys by 56 per cent, niobium products by 35 per cent, and ferroniobium by 13 per cent.

Notably, exports of rare earth metal compounds, particularly yttrium and scandium, reached 419 tonnes in the first quarter, a volume seven times higher than the total recorded throughout 2024.

In the manufacturing sector, Brazilian exports of taps and valves to China rose almost thirteenfold, totalling US$35 million, while shipments of mechanical devices soared nearly one hundred times to US$23 million.
