China has announced a breakthrough in its efforts to secure domestic energy supplies with the discovery of a major new shale gas field in the Sichuan Basin. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
The newly certified gas field represents a significant addition to China’s energy reserves. The area’s geological complexity, with the main gas deposits lying at depths greater than 3,500 metres, had previously presented considerable exploration challenges.
Overcoming hurdles required innovative approaches to hydrocarbon exploration and reservoir stimulation. By refining exploration techniques and improving the accuracy of subsurface mapping, engineers have been able to improve the precision of their estimates and increase efficiency, as reported by the source.
Experts believe that the shale gas resources are widely distributed in the complex tectonic zone in the south of this region and have vast potential for exploration and development.
