Energy experts from Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Chile, and Ecuador came to Russia to participate in the InteRussia international fellowship programme.
During his visit to Moscow, Ecuadorian mining engineer Mateo Montalvo learned about the work of an electric bus charging station and visited the Moscow Metro Unified Dispatch Centre. In an interview with TV BRICS, the guest noted the high level of development of electric transport in Moscow and called the trip “impressive.”
“This is the first time I’ve seen an electric bus. In my opinion, it’s very interesting. It has essentially changed my perception of the energy transition,” the engineer said.
He believes that electric buses are not only environmentally friendly, but also convenient for passengers: they are a modern, comfortable and eco-friendly solution.
Speaking about the prospects for the introduction of electric transport in Ecuador, Mateo Montalvo noted that a legislative framework is necessary for this. According to him, the country needs new environmentally friendly transport.
A specialist from El Salvador, data engineer William Alexander Henriquez, also came to Russia under the same programme.
“You are one, two, or even five steps ahead of us. It is very useful for us to learn about your experience in the field of energy, renewable sources, and other areas,” he said in an exclusive commentary for TV BRICS.
According to him, the development of data processing infrastructure can contribute to effective decision-making in the energy sector. At the same time, Russia’s energy landscape is favourably distinguished by its diversity of sources, unlike El Salvador, where the sector is largely dependent on hydroelectric power plants and electricity imports.
From 28 July to 25 August, an educational fellowship programme has been organised for specialists from Latin America and the Caribbean, which is taking place this year in St. Petersburg and Moscow. The organisers are the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance (UNECON), and Rossotrudnichestvo. TV BRICS is both the organiser and general media partner of the events.
Fellowship participants are working on the topic “The Changing Energy Landscape,” studying issues of energy security, the Russian oil and gas sector in an international context, the low-carbon economy strategy, and prospects for cooperation with Latin America. The programme includes visits to energy infrastructure facilities and meetings with leading experts in the field.
The InteRussia fellowship programme was launched in 2021 by the Gorchakov Fund. The project’s mission is to create conditions for constructive dialogue between young professionals from Russia and foreign countries.
