Tunisian Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, has urged stronger coordination among stakeholders to accelerate progress on the “Automotive Smart City” project, in response to growing investor interest in the automotive components sector. This is reported by Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP), a partner of TV BRICS.
Speaking at the third meeting of the project’s dedicated working group, the Minister highlighted that the initiative supports the goals outlined in Tunisia’s Industrial and Innovation Strategy, as well as the national Pact for the Competitiveness of the Automotive Industry, which runs through 2027.
According to the Minister, the successful implementation of the project could establish Tunisia as a regional centre for automotive component production and significantly increase the value of the country’s exports.
Currently, the sector comprises approximately 300 companies and employs over 120,000 people. The total production value is estimated at 8 billion dinars (about US$2.7 billion), with exports exceeding 7.5 billion dinars (about US$2.55 billion).
