BRICS+ countries to receive more unique news about Latin America

The Republic of Chile is strengthening its information presence in the BRICS+ media field through cooperation with TV BRICS. The Chilean regional internet portal El Maipo, owned by the Maipo Province Development Corporation (CorporaciĂłn para el Desarrollo del Maipo, CORMAIPO). The relevant memorandum was signed by CEO of TV BRICS Janna Tolstikova and Director of El Maipo, CORMAIPO President Claudio Corvalan Gallegos.

The agreements reached will enable Chile to receive more up-to-date information on the activities of BRICS members and partners and to present its agenda at the international level. TV BRICS will adapt the materials received from El Maipo into foreign languages, publish them on its platforms and distribute them through a network that already includes more than 100 media outlets from around the world.

“We are honoured to be part of the international media network that promotes communication between peoples based on mutual respect and equality, as well as information cooperation between countries of the Global South,” said Claudio Corvalan Gallegos.

The independent internet portal El Maipo was created in 2023 with the aim of informing the residents of the province of Maipo about events in the region, the republic and abroad. It publishes informational and analytical materials on topics such as state policy and local self-government, public life, education, innovation, ecology, healthcare, culture, and sports.

Anastasia Shishkalova, Head of TV BRICS’ Latin America department, emphasised that, along with major national media outlets, the media network also actively cooperates with regional media, which allows it to reflect in detail the country-specific characteristics, identity and cultural features of different peoples in the BRICS+ information space. TV BRICS’ regular partners include local media outlets in Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, India, China, Colombia, Nigeria, Chile, and South Africa, which, in turn, have direct access to materials from larger publications through the information exchange system.

“Recently, Chile has been showing increasing interest in BRICS and the association’s partner countries, so cooperation with the El Maipo portal, which is the third in the country to join TV BRICS, will undoubtedly be productive and interesting. Together, we will open up this Latin American republic to a wide audience through events that reflect real life in the provinces, with a special focus on the development of the agricultural sector and agricultural production. The unique materials prepared by El Maipo and adapted by TV BRICS for other countries will be a detailed addition to Chile’s international positioning,” believes Anastasia Shishkalova.

TV BRICS’ partners in Chile also include the news portals El Ciudadano and Cronica Digital. In total, media outlets in Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, and Chile cooperate with the international media network in Latin America. A total of 29 countries participate in content exchange through TV BRICS, with the media network’s information presence reaching 80 countries.
