Russia is advancing its international space cooperation efforts by preparing to open a state-of-the-art quantum optical station in Venezuela, further expanding the reach of GLONASS satellite navigation services across South America. This is reported by the official website of Roscosmos.
The announcement was made by Dmitry Bakanov, Director General of Roscosmos, during an inspection of the existing Russian quantum optical station at the University of Brasilia’s technology campus. His visit comes ahead of a key meeting of BRICS space agency leaders.
Speaking during the tour, Bakanov confirmed that the new quantum optical station in Venezuela is scheduled for launch between May and June 2025.
Highlighting the uniqueness of the project, Bakanov noted that there are no comparable foreign quantum optical stations currently operating in Venezuela. He also emphasised that Russian space technology is making a significant contribution to the development of international space science and satellite navigation innovation.
